Quick and Tasty Old-Fashioned Biscuits

When it comes to biscuits, we always use this recipe.  As indicated in the title, they're quick and tasty, and easy to make too.  Whenever we have baked chicken, fish, chili, soup or any hearty food, we make these biscuits.  This recipe is part of the "My Great Recipes" series that I subscribed to over a decade ago.  Until this day, this recipe is still in my collection box.  These biscuits are best served hot.  However, if you have leftovers, they can be toasted.

Ingredients:

2 cups all-purpose flour
2-1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 Tbsp sugar
1/2 cup butter
3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions:

1. Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar in a mixing bowl.

2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3. With a fork, stir in buttermilk to make a soft dough.

4. Turn out onto lightly floured board and knead about 10 times to form a smooth ball. Do not over knead or biscuits will not be tender.

5. Roll out to a 6x6 inch square then place on an ungreased baking sheet.

6. With knife, cut dough into 12 portions. Do not separate; leave biscuits in a square.

7. Bake at 400F until golden, about 15-20 minutes.
